Visionary $4 Million Gift: University of Houston Awarded Endowed Chair to Advance Health Care Business Innovation
A noted Houston philanthropist has made a generous $2 million gift to the University of Houston, which will be matched dollar-for-dollar via Aspire Fund to advance health care business innovation. Elaine Finger — wife of the late real estate giant Marvy Finger — has donated this tremendous sum to create the Elaine W. Finger Endowed Chair in Health Care Business Innovation.
The joint position with the C.T. Bauer College of Business and the Tilman J. Fertitta Family College of Medicine will be responsible for generating new ideas, researching technology advancements, and furthering innovative solutions in the healthcare sector. The gift has been conducted through the Bauer Foundation, and will be matched by UH’s Aspire Fund — an anonymous grant program set up to accumulate $100 million towards advancing education, health care research, and industry outreach.
“This investment is far more than just a generous gift – it is an expression of our dedication to finding solutions that can shape the healthcare landscape for generations,” says Diane Z. Chase, UH Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost.
To capitalize on the donations, the Bauer College launched the Healthcare Business Institute (HBI), which endeavors to connect students, faculty and researchers from the Bauer College, the Fertitta Family College of Medicine, and the UH Law Center.
UH has now launched a national search for an esteemed chair to lead HBI. According to the university, the successful candidate “must be of high national prominence and recognized for achievements such as membership in the National Academy of Science, National Academy of Medicine, or another related program.” The current research director and professor of health care strategy is Dr. Ravi Aron.
